Cycling breaks at Casa La Siesta Hotel

Casa la Siesta hotel, located in Vejer de la Frontera and BICIZ, expert company in bike tours, have reached a partnership agreement to offer tailor made bike tours to hotel guests.

Casa La Siesta Hotel

Set in acres of grounds with magnificent, unspoilt views of the authentic rural setting.

Casa La Siesta offers its guests the privilege of space and the luxury of privacy.

The heart of the place is its lovely central courtyard lined with shady spots for dining together in the evenings. Dotted around it, each guest room comes with its own private terrace, should you want to escape the rest of the group for a while with a book, a glass of wine and a stunning sunset for company.

The house opens out onto gardens full of olive and orange trees and banks of scented lavender, while two lawn-lined swimming pools (one heated for Spring and Autumn) are on hand for cooling off on sultry summer afternoons.

Beyond that, the rolling hills of the Cadiz countryside stretch away…

Location

Casa La Siesta, tucked into rolling farmland off a country lane, is 11km (seven miles) from Vejer de la Frontera, a hilltop pueblo blanco (white village). This part of the Costa de la Luz is famed for its beaches, which include Conil and El Palmar – both a 20-minute drive away – and Caños de Meca, which has a laid-back hippy vibe. Culture lovers can reach Cádiz Old Town in under 50 minutes and Jerez Airport is 79km (49 miles) away. Staff can arrange hire cars and taxis.

Service & Facilities

The owners offer impeccable service and local knowledge.

A host of activities can be arranged, including sherry bodega tours, horse-riding and cycling. Massages are available in a Mongolian-style yurt. Outside, amongst olive and fruits trees, you’ll find chill-out areas and a lawn-lined pool (heated in spring/ autumn). Casa La Siesta also specialises in hosting weddings.

Rooms

The 9 rooms at Casa La Siesta are very much in keeping with the atmospheric ‘cortijo’ (or Spanish country house) feel that runs throughout our luxury guest house.

Each has been individually designed with scrupulous attention to detail in the decor – from the high ceilings lined with old wooden beams to the decorative antique tiles on the floor and the assortment of eclectic European antiques – while also boasting a wonderful level of privacy through their own sun terraces.

On top of that, there’s luxury linen on the (seriously comfy) beds, oversized showers in the bathrooms, wonderful views in all directions and complimentary water, soft drinks and beer. Our rooms also include quality bath products from REN.

Cuisine

Food is central to life here, where the focus is on fresh dishes based on local produce, such as ibérico ham, served with herbs and vegetables grown on-site. The kitchen door is always open and delicious smells waft out. Whether you’re renting the house out for a group holiday or as a wedding venue it’s always one of the true highlights of a stay.

What is not sourced from the extensive kitchen garden is guaranteed to have been sourced locally. The area’s abundant supply of wonderful seafood plays a major part in the kitchen’s offerings.

There´s an excellent wine list and a well-stocked honesty bar. Wonderful Spanish wines, many having been sourced from family-run local vineyards. Due to the proximity to the Jerez region, Casa la Siesta has developed a wonderful collection of the area’s finest Sherry and often invite guests to enjoy a high-class tapas and sherry tasting supper.

Bike Tours

Come to Casa la Siesta for a week of rides and training customised to your Bike tour experience.

Casa La Siesta is a luxury boutique hotel in Andalucia that’s tailor-made for cycling.

With a dedicated trainer, a ride in ride out countryside location that offers a range of challenging – and stunning – cycling routes, a heated pool, seasonal kitchen, enormous rooms and a masseuse on tap, it makes for the perfect enthusiast’s bike tours in Spain.

For our dedicated cycling breaks, our guide has put together four routes with a rest day in the middle. These routes or bike tours have been made by a cyclist for cyclists and they mix steady and steep hill climbs with flat speed zones.

These are our set routes, but if you’d like to hone your orienteering, route-planning and physical fitness, our guide is flexible enough to set mandatory control points through a route you compile yourself.

Our support vehicle will be present throughout the bike tours. There’s also a return vehicle used to get back to Casa La Siesta. If you choose to use our bikes, the brands we have available are Olympia and Conor.

Colder weather apparel might be necessary depending on which week you choose, mainly due to occasional rain and wind during winter and spring. However, with average daytime temperatures for October-December hovering around 15-20°C, it’s certainly warmer in southern Spain than most other places in Europe. You can pack those Rapha summer kits and Velocio bibs, basically.

Tired limbs will benefit from in-room massages and healthy cuisine with a liberal dash of ‘jamon con vino tinto’ to fuel the body and mind.

Casa La Siesta is surrounded by rolling countryside, so a dawn or dusk run to stretch out those hamstrings is easy to do. Also, the main pool is heated which is perfect for easing sore muscles after a long, hard day on the road.

While our speciality is road cycling, we also have a great relationship with a mountain biking guide who can also do other type of bike tours such as fun beach rides on fat wheeled bikes. Sometimes our cyclists want to end their trip with something a bit different and the spectacular beaches around us are perfect for dune cycling.

Cadiz Beaches

Renowned for miles of golden sand, crystal blue waters and Atlantic surf, the beaches around Vejer de la Frontera are some of the best in the whole of Spain.

We’ve put together a guide to a few of the best Cadiz beaches, where you can spend a day relaxing in the sun or watching the sun set over the horizon…

El Palmar Beach:

Just a 20-minute (15km) drive from Casa La Siesta, it’s easy to spend the entire day at El Palmar.

With miles of soft, golden sand, it’s the perfect place to find your own space and get away from it all for a while.

During July and August El Palmar has a fun vibe, with low-key beachclub-esque bars with live music and DJs. Relaxing, long beach days will work up an appetite (particularly as the surf at El Palmar can be lively), and there are some decent seafront bars and restaurants to choose from for a spot of lunch, or kick back with a sundowner as the sun slides into the ocean.

Feeling adventurous? Why not try some surfing during your visit? You can use escuela de surf el Palmar Kotadalu or try escuela de Surf el Palmar.

Zahora Beach:

Again only a 20-minute drive away, (further down the coast from El Palmar beach with the lighthouse of Trafalgar to your left) Zahora is a narrow but beautiful golden-sand beach. On the right side of the beach is a small grassy hill, making it an ideal picnic spot all year round. Handily enough, there are two car parks nearby, parking Playa de Zahora and parking La Jungla.

Bolonia Beach:

Bolonia is a little further from Vejer, at around a 45-minute (40km) drive away. But it’s well worth the extra time in the car, as it’s one of the most picturesque beaches in Cadiz. The beach merges with white sand dunes and pine trees, creating a beautiful setting for both relaxing beach days and long walks.

Fuente del Gallo Beach:

With Atlantic waves crashing onto golden sands overlooked by cliffs, Fuente del Gallo boasts natural beauty in a wonderfully picturesque location. A 30-minute drive (24km) away, you can easily spend just a quick morning or afternoon here topping up the tap before driving back to the Casa.

Conil de la Frontera Beach:

A small yet lively beach town, in summer Conil’s seafront is lined with tapas bars and nightlife. The beach itself boasts rich, golden sand and a beautiful view of the white village behind you.

Los Caños de Meca Beach:

Just around the point of the lighthouse of Trafalgar, this smaller beach is only a half hour’s drive away from the hotel, and is well-known for its surfing and beautiful tree-lined cliff face.

Playa de Valdevaqueros, Tarifa:

Just a little under an hour’s drive (55km) from Casa La Siesta you’ll find yourself on one of the best beaches in Cadiz Province. Bordered by long stretches of white sand that open out onto views of Morocco, whether for wind surfing or lazy days stretched out on the sand, Valdevaqueros beach, and the beaches around Tarifa, generally, are a must-visit.
